Soft, Buttery Dairy-Free Sugar Cookies for Christmas Baking

These dairy-free festive sugar cookies are the perfect Christmas treat soft, buttery, and lightly sweet with a smooth cream-cheese frosting made using Dairy-Free Down Under Cream Cheese Style. This easy holiday recipe is ideal for decorating with the family and creates cookies that hold their shape beautifully while baking. A must-have for any dairy-free Christmas baking list.

Ingredients

Makes: 24 cookies

Prep: 15 mins (+ 30 mins chill)

Cook: 10–12 mins

  • 125 g plant-based butter, softened
  • 100 g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened plant milk
  • 220 g plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

Frosting:

  • 150 g Dairy-Free Down Under Cream Cheese Style
  • 50 g plant-based butter
  • 150 g icing sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. Beat the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  2. Mix in the vanilla and plant milk.
  3. Sift in the flour, baking powder and salt. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Flatten the dough, wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  6. Roll dough to 4 mm on a lightly floured surface and cut into festive shapes.
  7. Bake on lined trays for 10–12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool on the trays for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
  9. Frosting: Beat Cream Cheese Style, butter, icing sugar and vanilla until fluffy.
  10. Spread or pipe onto cooled cookies and decorate with dairy-free sprinkles.
